i have gotten a few emails asking me to drop smoe shit, i know many have seen these, but being since a big topic with me was batting, and numbers made a good point on his thead, i figfured i bring these back
this is for the ones that havent seen this, and the ones that did and dont mind seeing it again,
1: DONT SLEEP!
NO MATTER HOW MUCH BETTER YOU THINK YOU ARE THAN YOUR OPPONENT, YOU SHOULD EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED. THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEONE OUT THERE WAITING FOR YOU TO JUMP IN THE CYPHER AND THE ELEMENT OF SURPRISE CAN BE THEIR BEST WEAPON. REMEMBER ANY GIVEN SUNDAY? SAME RULES APPLY TO THE DANCE. ANY GIVEN DANCER CAN TAKE OUT ANOTHER ON A GOOD DAY.
2: NEVER SHOW YOUR WHOLE ARSENAL!
TOO MANY PEEPS SPEND A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF TIME DANCING ALL NIGHT IN A CYPHER ONLY TO GET IN THE BATTLE LATER THAT EVENING AND DO THE EXACT SAME MOVES THEY WERE HITTING IN THE CYPHER. THIS LEAVES NOTHING TO THE IMAGINATION, AND THE ELEMENT OF SURPRISE HAS FIZZLED OUT BY THE TIME YOU DO USE THOSE BURNERS.
(tip: Try separating your runs in 3, cypher moves, moves for the show, and burners for the battles.)
3:NEVER DO ANY MOVES THAT AREN'T MASTERED YET!
THIS IS A BATTLE NOT PRACTICE! IF YOU MESS UP, LOOK SLOPPY OR SLOW AND AINT HITTING THE BEATS, ITS A 100% CHANCE YOU'RE LOSING THE ROUND. STICK TO YOUR MASTERED RUNS.
4:NEVER DO MULTIPLE RUNS!
MANY PEEPS, ESPECIAlLY THE LADIES, ARE GUILTY OF THIS. ONE SHOULD NEVER GO DOWN, DO A RUN, AND GET UP JUST TO DO ANOTHER RUN. SOMETIMES LESS IS MORE, IN AND OUT!!
YOU SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM THIS ESPECIALLY IF YOUR FIRST RUN GOT THE CROWD OPEN. SOMETIMES THE CROWD DOESNT MATTER IF YOU HAVE A GOOD JUDGE. THE REASON TO STAY AWAY FROM DOING THIS IS BECAUSE YOU WASTE A LOT OF ENERGY, AND BY THE TIME YOU FINISH YOUR SECOND HALF OF THE RUN YOU DONT LOOK AS SHARP AS THE FIRST TIME YOU WENT DOWN.
(Exception to the rule: Do one long run, get up and do a quick, hard crowd pleasing burner!)
5: NEVER FOLLOW A MOVE WITH THE SAME MOVE!
IVE SEEN TOO MANY PEEPS GO OUT AND TRY TO OUT DO A CERTAIN MOVE, WITH THE SAME MOVE THEIR OPPONENTS DID. THIS IS A WASTE OF TIME. FIND COUNTER MOVES TO EXECUTE AGAINST THOSE MOVES DONE TO YOU, LATER ON IN THE BATTLE YOU BRING BACK THOSE MOVES TO COUNTER A WEAKER RUN AND YOUR OPPONENT CAN DO IT AGAIN SINCE IT WOULD BE CONSIDERED RUNNING THE MOVE!
(Exception to the rule: Do this only if you are mocking your opponent and absolutely sure you're gonna blow their run out of the water!)
6: LESS TALK, MORE CONCENTRATION!
ALOT OF PEEPS SPEND MORE TIME TALKING CRAP TO THEIR OPPONENT, AND NOT ENUFF TIME STRATAGIZING. THIS CAN TAKE A LOT OF WIND OUT OF YOU IF YOU ARE IN A ONE-ON-ONE BATTLE AND EVEN WORSE, IF YOU LOSE, NO ONE WILL REMEMBER YOUR GOOD MOVES, THEY WILL ONLY REMEMBER THE FACT THAT YOU TALKED ALOT OF CRAP!
(Exception to the rule:: Some opponents can be talked out of their concentration if you do it tastefully and properly without wasting a lot of energy )
7:STRATEGY WINS BATTLES, NOT MOVES!
I HAVE WON A LOT OF BATTLES BUT NOT BECAUSE IM A GOOD BBOY, ITS BECAUSE IM A GOOD THINKER. ONE MUST LEARN TO STEP OUT OF THEMSELVES, ANALYZE THE SITUATION, AND MAKE THE PROPER DECISION ALL IN THE TIME YOUR OPPONENT GETS UP AND YOU COME IN. BUT TOO MUCH THINKING CAN RUIN YOU ALSO, AS MASTER BRUCE WOULD SAY, "DON'T THINK'…FEEL!"
8:IF IT'S A BATTLE LET IT BE KNOWN!
SUBLIMINALS ARE WACK! THE CORNIEST THING I EVER SEEN WAS SOMEONE GO IN A CYPHER AFTER ANOTHER DANCER, AND CLAIM TO HAVE SMOKED HIM. TRUTH IS IF YOUR OPPONENT DOESN'T KNOW IT WAS A BATTLE THEN YOU AINT SMOKING NOTHING. KEEP IT REAL AND LET YOUR OPPONENT KNOW IT'S A BATTLE BY MAKING EYE CONTACT AND FREEZING RIGHT IN THEIR VIEW.
9: KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE PRIZE!
WHEN EVA YOU PRACTICE FOR COMPITITION, OR EVEN FOR SHOWS, ONE MUST LEARN TO KEEP ALL THEIR MOVES ANGULAR. WHAT I MEAN BY THIS IS TO HAVE THE ABILITY TO NOT ONLY COME OUT TOPROCKING FACING YOUR OPPONENT OR THE CROWD, BUT TO HIT EVERY MOVE AND EVERY FREEZE, FACING IN THE SAME DIRECTION. YOU CAN GET BETTER AT THIS BY PICKING A POINT OF FOCUS WHEN YOU PRACTICE. A LAMP, A SPOT ON THE WAL, ANYTHING, THIS WILL PEPARE YOU FOR PROPER EXECUTION OF MOVES AND FREEZES.
10: ADMIT YOUR LOSES!
THE WORST THING IN THE WORLD IS WHEN ONE CAN'T ADMIT TO LOSING A BATTLE. TRUTH IS IN A BATTLE ONE PERSON HAS TO LOSE AND IF ITS YOU, MAKE THE BEST OF IT. GO HOME, GET IN THE LAB, AND COME BACK STRONGER! WHEN I ASKED LIL LEP ABOUT HIS MOTIVATION FOR MASTERING THE PENCILS (ONE SHOT HEADSPINS), HE SAID THAT HE WAS ONCE IN A BATTLE AND HIS OPPONENT ROASTED HIM WITH A HEADSPIN. HE THEN ADMITED HIS LOSS AND WORKED ON HIS WEAK POINT, CAME BACK, AND ROASTED THE SAME PERSON WITH HIS OWN MOVES. ADMITTING YOUR LOSSES WILL MAKE YOU STRONGER, ADDS TO YOUR CHARACTER, AND GIVE'S YOU MOTIVATION.
